Daylight Savings
Whoa, on this very day, 29 October 2006, there is no 12 am on my timezone. Day light savings is an occurence whereby the time is brought forward by an hour so as to take advantage of the sunlight. This is pretty absurd to me cos I have effectively less one hour of sleep. God damn it! So effectively its 1:09 am now. Manipulating of time this way is pretty gay man. Damn it!

From Haunted House in NYC to Phantom of the Opera
26 October 2006 - Phantom of the Opera
Haven't been blogging for a while due to busy schedule and generally lack of activity happening around. Been busy with midterms and case presentation and can you believe it, its still not over. Haiz.. BUT, even though its in the midst of exams and tests, I still make time for some adventure. Halloween is round the corner and me and my friends decided to embark on some ghostly adventure. We have heard from the locals that there is this very eerie and haunted house in NYC. Its located in downtown. When we hear about it, we go "wow! let's check it out man!" But it was really eerie from the outside.

The Haunted House of NY.......
Haa, ok la.. just crappy with you guys la. It is the Haunted House of NYC but its staged. Basically, you pay an entrance fee to go in to be scared. Its free anyway since its organised by my dorm and they waived off the fees. Not really that scary and I think the fright nights we have back home is way better.
Now for the real phantom....

Check out the "Spirit" behind....
Watch the phantom of the opera. Not too bad, but I could kinda feel for the phantom in the end. I mean, if you think about it, how many of us can really face the real world without a mask? In fact, how many of us really dare to face the real us? I know all these sounds cliche but the half mask did struck me. Perhaps, sometimes, half of you wanna show the real world the "true" you but you are afraid. Not necessary afraid that people might exploit you or harm you if you bare all your feelings. It could also be a situation where you do not one others to know how you actually feel cos you do not want them to be upset or simply you do not wanna dampen their mood though you feel down and out. On the otherhand, you could be happy but others around you are upset. Maybe cos say you did well in some test and he did not. You probably have to "mask" your happiness so as to be sensitive to his feelings. I could be generalising but maybe in the world out there, most of us are wearing a half mask. Baring a portion of our true feelings and yet masking some of it. Perhaps...we are all phantom of our own opera.

Buffalo Wings to Thousand Island Sauce
07 October 2006 - Niagara Falls
08 October 2006 - Washington DC and Philly
Hey hey hey!! haa, went on a vacation over the weekend. It was really really fun man. Went over to Thousand Island first. It was a long bus ride up and god knows how many was that. Apparently, there are altogether 1800 islands and that's why its called Thousand Islands. Haa, and the benchmark used is that any flat piece of ground with 2 trees on the sea is considered an island. Yup, not a tree less. And the famous thousand island salad sauce you guys used back home.. you guess it, its named after this place. Apparently according to the guide, there was a chef who have forgotten to bring the salad sauce to one of the island. In order to serve the salad to the guests, he just conjured up something and the guests love it and there you go, thousand island sauce. After a nice boat ride around thousand islands, we stayed over at a hotel at Buffalo. Haa and no prize for guessing this right. Buffalo wings orignate from this town.

Pretty cool pose. Haa
Next stop was Niagara Falls. Whoa...this is da bomb of the trip man! We are right at the borders and only a small bridge connects US to Canada. It is totally breathtaking man... Apparently there is 3 falls. The Horse shoe fall that belongs to Canada, the American Fall and there's a tiny one known as the bridal veil fall. We took a boat ride through all the falls. You could just feel the sheer ferocity of the fall. It was a terrific experience...marvellous..and running out of superlatives to describe it.

Horse Shoe Fall.

The Whole Gang. Check out the Rainbow!
Vain attempt to knock down Capitol Building
"Uncle" Bush Residence
Finally, on the last day we stop by Washington DC and Philly before heading back to NY.

Arty Farty ZH Strikes Back
28 September 2006 – Metropolitan Museum
03 October 2006 – Lincoln Centre of Fine Arts
Metropolitan Museum - Apollo & Diana
After a series of musicals, Arty Farty ZH decides to change his after school activities to appreciating classical orchestra performance. Can you believe it?? Haa, mai siao siao ok… ZH the uncouth kid around the block is learning how to be a refine young gentleman in NY. Before that, I actually went to the Metropolitan Museum to appreciate some art pieces. They have pieces from the Baroque period to the contemporary period. Honestly, I find that sculptures from the Baroque period too elaborate for my liking. Abstract pieces are too chim for me to understand anyway…Haa, something more amazing is that ZH actually recognize some of the art pieces ok… Impressionist artists like Claude Monet’s masterpieces were there…. Of course there’s also Picasso’s stuff…Suddenly I feel so cultured…hee

Lincoln Centre of Fine Arts
ZH’s level of sophistication = +10 points
After that, went to this Chocolate Restaurant. Whoa....
Double chocolate with melted marshmallows pizza for supper... Yum Yum!!
Next stop, Italian Soap Opera…haa
And Yankees Win Yet Again
Yankee Stadium - Pseudo Yankee Fan
Went to watch my first baseball match in my life Haa seriously, I don’t even really know the rules of baseball. But it was fun especially when the home team won. The atmosphere was totally amazing man. Especially when New York Yankees score a home run, the roar was deafening. The commentator played some music and the stadium turned into a big dance floor. Haa, ZH with beer on one hand (Darn, the beer cost me 9 usd…), started dancing around like the rest of the fans around. People started bonding and starting to do hi-fives with me. Kinda reminds me of the good old days of Tiger Cup where Mr. Peng Enwei and I braved the rain to support Singapore Vs Myanmar in the National Stadium.
Final Score, Yankee 7 – 2 Blue Jays

“We certainly whoop Toronto Blue Jay’s ass”

IBEX Fair
IBEX Fair
IBEX means International Business Exchange Program. Haa, since I am the only one from NUS, I have to do the job of promoting NUS to NYU students. Honestly, I didn't want to do that but since they are offering free lunch..alright, cheapo me decided to pretend to love NUS so much that I sign up for the event. Haa, so glad that I sign up for it. See all the other students trying to promote their university and everything..kinda interesing. And of course, I end up being an ambassador for Singapore instead. But the best part to everything is Maria Masha. Some of you may have seen her in NUS last semester. Haa, she is so funny and she's like so enthusiastic about Singapore and NUS etc... so many of the NYU students are so convinced by her. Even some exchange students decided to come over to NUS for their post grad. Kudos to her man.

Masha and I Selling NUS
Haa and best part, she told me so much about our dear Prof Lau. He was the key selling point. She was telling everyone that what a party animal he is and was telling how he got so wasted once in Devil's Bar that he took off his clothings. She will go clubbing at Double O with him and his wife weekly etc.... And you guys do remember the NUS Advertisement with the logo on the jeans (the one that came out for our marketing exams) I dunno why but the Americans thought that the advertisement was so cool! haa

Happening Prof
I do agree with her that its not a pretty sight though.. (Will I get him into trouble?? hmm...I hope not and thats his wife by the way.)
